Indian millionaires will see wealth grow fastest over next decade



New Delhi, Aug 17 (IANS) Millionaires in India are likely to see their wealth grow by a whopping 405 percent over the next decade -- the fastest in the world, according to a study by global consulting major Deloitte.
'Among emerging markets in 2020, India is likely to have the highest per capita wealth among millionaires with $4.25 million -- placing it ahead of the US,' said a report from the New York-headquartered Deloitte Center for Financial Service.

Bhopal, Aug 16 (IANS) Shehla Masood, an anti-corruption crusader and Right to Information activist, was Tuesday shot dead outside her residence here, police said.
Masood was in her car in the Koh-e-Fiza area when she was shot in the neck, Inspector General of Police Sailendra Srivastava told IANS.

New Delhi:  More than 36 hours after he was brought to the Tihar Jail, Anna Hazare relented and accepted a police offer of staging a 14-day protest hunger- strike at the Ramlila Grounds in Delhi. Mr Hazare is expected to be at the venue at 3 pm today, tweeted his close associate Kiran Bedi.

Floods continue to impact many parts of India


Lucknow:  Heavy and continuous rainfall continues to affect many parts of India. In the north, many major rivers are in spate and floods continue to impact several villages in Uttar Pradesh. 

The Ghagra river is 35 cms above danger mark. It has breached its embankment along the Charasi village in Barabanki. Over a dozen villages are likely to be affected after four lakh cusecs of water has been released by Nepal on Wednesday. The district administration has asked for the National Disaster Management Force (NDMF) to deal with the crisis. Around ten thousand people have been affected in Gonda district alone.

Afghan market bomb blast kills seven, says official

Kandahar:  Seven civilians were killed and eight others wounded on Tuesday in a motorcycle bomb blast at a market in southern Afghanistan, officials said.

The attack happened at a market in Uruzgan province at around 6:30 pm (1930 IST) as local people were shopping in preparation for breaking their fasts during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

London:  A woman in Britain handed over her 14-year-old son to the police after watching him on CCTV stealing a chewing gum packet worth one pound.

The boy, from Sale town of Manchester, was dragged to the Stretford police station by his mother to confess his crime, the Daily Express reported.

Pak woman beats domestic help to death for not feeding her dog

Lahore:  A Pakistani woman clubbed to death her 12-year-old domestic help for not serving a meal to her dog in Lahore.

Sadia Asif, a resident of Valencia Town, beat Taqi Usman to death after he failed to serve food to her pet. She had asked Usman to feed the dog before going to market a few days ago, an investigator said.
