Follow Uttarakhand example, says Anna after ending maun vrat











New Delhi:  Anna Hazare ended his 19-day vow of silence today with many words. He gave an A+ to the anti-corruption bill passed in Uttarakhand this week, said he suspected the UPA government's motives on the Lokpal Bill and sought to distance himself from any political alignment as he campaigns against corruption.

Petrol prices upset allies, but Mamata won't quit government













Kolkata:  Mamata Banerjee has struck out at the Congress over the hike in petrol prices. After meeting with senior MPs from her party in Kolkata, Ms Banerjee, visibly angry, said her party had not been consulted about the hike, and that her MPs are willing to resign if they are excluded from decisions like this one which affect the common man.

Without BJP support, Anna would have faced Ramdev-like action: Gadkari












Delhi:  Anna Hazare may have tried to distance himself from the BJP, but party president Nitin Gadkari has said that if the party had not supported Anna Hazare, the Gandhian and his movement may  have run into the sort of disaster confronted by yoga icon Baba Ramdev and his supporters. "We don't go anywhere uninvited," said Mr Gadkari, "but we will continue to support Anna because he is a good man and he has a good cause."   Mr Gadkari also said that he is not upset with Anna's comments against his party, and its parent organization, the RSS.
 

Jayalalithaa must travel to Bangalore court again, says Supreme Court












Chennai:  Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa will have to show up again in a Bangalore court which is handling a case of alleged corruption against her.

The Supreme Court today turned down the latest in a series of appeals from Jayalalithaa asking for exemption from appearing in that court, located in a Bangalore prison. "We cannot set a wrong precedent," said the Supreme Court judges, explaining their decision.
