Man poses as terrorist, makes threat calls to neighbour

Delhi:  He was jealous of his neighbour's wealth and so thought of an idea to ruin him. Parvesh Kumar (22) allegedly made some extortion calls to his neighbour, claiming to be a member of a terrorist group. The accused also exploded an incendiary device near his house to make him believe that he was really a member of a militant organisation.

Lovers killed gay businessman

New Delhi:  In the end it all boils down to money. Delhi police claims to have solved last month's murder case of a businessman in Kirti Nagar in west Delhi. Two youths who allegedly had an illicit relationship with 44-year-old Narender Narang have been arrested for murdering him. Pradeep (21) and Kamal Kishore (19) told police that they had murdered Narang  to acquire his wealth.

Man dies as car catches fire

New Delhi:  A 30-year-old telecom executive was burnt to death after his car went up in flames here, police said on Thursday.

Pardeep Arora, a resident of Dilshad Garden in east Delhi, was on an official trip when his Alto car caught fire in Adarsh Nagar area of north Delhi.

Fake friendship club busted in Delhi

New Delhi:  A total of 18 people, including 16 women, have been arrested for running a fake friendship club and massage training centre in New Delhi, police said on Saturday.

The accused were arrested on Friday from Uttam Nagar in west Delhi, from where they were operating. The women arrested are in the age group of 18 to 28, a police officer said.

Eight-year-old girl beaten to death by Dera baba in Amritsar

Amritsar:  In a shocking case, a minor girl was beaten to death, allegedly by Sukhdev Singh, aDera Sewadar (religious worker), in an Amritsar village on Saturday.

The girl was brought from Maharashtra about 10 months ago and was and held captive here by the baba.

Hyderabad:  Transport services in the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh came to a halt as a two-day 'rail blockade' and strike by auto-rickshaws began on Saturday morning, adding to the problems of people already reeling under the impact of protest by the state-owned Road Transport Corporation (RTC).

2G probe: CBI records Jaswant Singh's statement

New Delhi:  Former Finance Minister Jaswant Singh has been examined by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the 2G spectrum case. 

Mr Singh's statement has been recorded as part of a preliminary 2G report. He was the Finance Minister in the NDA regime and was heading the group of ministers on issue of limited mobility and spectrum allocation.

Former DMK minister arrested for fisherman's murder

Chennai:  Former DMK Minister K P P Samy was today arrested in connection with a case relating to the murder of a fisherman in 2006.

Mr Samy - who was the Fisheries Minister in the last DMK government - was taken into custody from his residence at Tiruvottiyur, police said. His anticipatory bail was also cancelled.

Mirchpur Dalit killings: 82 of 97 accused acquitted

New Delhi:  A Delhi court today convicted 15 of the 97 accused of burning alive a 70-year-old man and his physically challenged daughter at the Mirchpur village in Haryana last year.

Additional Sessions Judge Kamini Lau, however, did not pronounce guilty either of the 15 accused on charges of murder.
