JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - South Africa one-day captain AB de Villiers is an injury doubt for next month's limited over series against Australia after fracturing his left hand during fielding practice on Wednesday.
De Villiers, who took over from Graeme Smith after the World Cup this year, had been taking part in a fielding drill with the Royal Challengers Bangalore who are taking part in the Champions League Twenty20 tournament in India.

FIR against Dayanidhi Maran soon: CBI



The Central Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday submitted in the Supreme Court it would file a first information report (FIR) against the former Union Minister, Dayanidhi Maran, in the next few days in the case relating to the sale of Aircel to the Malaysia-based Maxis Group as there was enough evidence in the preliminary enquiry (PE).

Advani, Jaitley visit Tihar to meet Kulkarni


Senior BJP leaders L.K. Advani and Arun Jaitley visited Sudheendra Kulkarni in Tihar Jail on Wednesday.
The visit was aimed at expressing solidarity with the jailed strategist who was a former aide of Advani.
Kulkarni was denied bail by a lower court and sent to judicial custody on Tuesday for his role in the cash-for-votes operation.
Two former BJP MPs, Faggan Singh Kulaste and Mahavir Bhagora, are already lodged in Tihar for their participation in the sting operation.

�The health sector is where the public is exploited the most, the Chief Minister said.� “In every home, there is at least one person who is on medication. We cannot let pharma companies rob us,’’ Chandy said. The� participation of the Kerala Medical Services Corporation Ltd will be increased to ensure adequate supply of essential medicines at affordable rates, he said.

Palmolein case: HC stays court order to probe Chandy’s role


The Kerala High Court on Tuesday stayed a lower court order directing investigation into the role of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in the 1992 Palmolein import case.
Mr. Chandy was Finance Minister in the K. Karunakaran Cabinet when the deal was inked.
The interim order was issued by Justice K. T. Sankaran on a petition filed by senior IAS officer Jiji Thomson, who is the fifth accused in the case, seeking to quash the order of the Thiruvananthapuram vigilance special court.

Ms. Banerjee defeated her rival Nandini Mukhopadhyay of the Communist Party of India(Marxist) marking her maiden entry into the Assembly, though she had been consistently elected to the Lok Sabha since 1984, except in 1989.

Woman commits suicide in Mumbai, husband arrested












Mumbai:  A 24-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide in Mumbai by hanging herself at her residence in suburban Andheri.

Nidhi Singh lived with her husband Vikram at a first floor flat at Golden Apartments in the MIDC area. Vikram has now been arrested for abetment to suicide. He is from Uttar Pradesh and had married Nidhi in February this year.

India court rules West Bengal Tata land move is legal



A court in India has ruled that West Bengal's state government acted legally in reclaiming land where Tata Motors wanted to build its low-cost Nano car.
The 1,000-acre plot of land was acquired in 2006 by the state's former communist government and leased to the company for 99 years.

Verdict on adivasi women raped in Tamil Nadu












Chennai:  More than a hundred Dalits were tortured and abused during a raid for smuggled sandalwood; 18 adivasi or tribal women were raped in a small village named Vachathi in Tamil Nadu. This was in 1992. And the verdict for these atrocities has been delivered today.

 A special court on Thursday pronounced the much-awaited judgement in the 1992 Vachathi case and convicted all 269 accused for atrocity on Dalits and 17 for rape. The forest, police and revenue officials were accused of brutal assault of tribal people and rape of several women during a search for smuggled sandalwood.

2G note crisis: PM to meet ministers, Chidambaram still 'upset'



The Congress on Thursday started an all-out effort to resolve the issue of controversial finance ministry note on 2G spectrum allocation, which has split the party leaders.
While Congress president Sonia Gandhi held a series of meetings with senior party leaders and ministers on Thursday, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was likely to meet Home Minister P.Chidambaram and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee later in the day to ensure that the issue was resolved at the earliest.
