Nishank to step down as Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Khanduri to replace him














New Delhi:  Uttarakhand is all set to get a new chief minister as the Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday asked the current incumbent Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank to step down. Mr Nishank will be replaced by B C Khanduri who will be sworn in at 4 pm today.

s.355.29 crore, a government spokesman said on Saturday.

The maximum loss of Rs.74.10 crore was reported in Kangra district, followed by Kullu districtRs.7.56 crore, he said.

Khanduri returns to helm after two years












Dehradun:  A retired major general who rose to prominence in the BJP by a quirk of fate, Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri returns as Chief Minister of Uttarakhand after a gap of over two years.

Forced out of office in 2009 following a campaign by his bete noire former chief minister Bhagat Singh Koshiyari after the party lost all five Lok Sabha seats in the hill state, 76-year-old Khanduri's return to power comes at a time when the party is preparing for assembly polls due next year.

Uttarakhand: BC Khanduri sworn in as Chief Minister














Dehradun:  BC Khanduri was today sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Uttarakhand by Governor Margaret Alva. This comes a day after Bharatiya Janata Party (MJP) asked the Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank to step down.

Tamil Nadu: 3 die in police firing in Ramanathapuram












Madurai:  Three people died when the police opened fire after being attacked by a mob in Tamil Nadu's Ramanathapuram district today.

According to reports, Trouble began when police arrested John Pandian, a dalit leader, in a bid to prevent him from attending the birth anniversary of a late dalit leader. Soon after the arrest, a mob attacked the police at Paramakudi, injuring several policemen including a Deputy Commissioner of Police.

CISF finds bullets on Sufi singers, the Wadali brothers












Amritsar:  Fourteen .32 bore pistol cartridges were seized from the baggage of Sufi singer Pyare Lal Wadali at Rajasansi Airport today, shortly before he boarded a flight for Delhi from Amritsar.

Officials said Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel seized the bullets during the baggage screening at the airport.
