They vowed not to eat unhealthy food after they saw a fatty liver on display at the Zakir Hall placed alongside a normal healthy liver as a part of the fourth annual workshop organised by the Department of Anatomy, PGIMER.
Want to Lose Weight? Eat the Same Food Every Day
Eating the same foods, day after day, may make you so uninterested in your meals that you start eating less, a new study suggests.
Women who ate macaroni and cheese every day for a week were taking in 100 fewer calories each day than normal by the week's end, the study showed.
The study "provides a very interesting new piece to the obesity puzzle by suggesting that meal monotony may actually lead to reduced calorie consumption," said Shelley McGuire, an associate professor of nutrition at Washington State University and a spokesperson for the American Society for Nutrition. "The trick will be balancing this concept with the importance of variety to good nutrition."
Trying to shed those extra kilos? Begin eating same food over and over again
WASHINGTON: Struggling to shed those extra kilos? Eat the same food every day, scientists say. Researchers at the University of Buffalo in the US found that eating the same food over and over again in successive meals can make people so uninterested in the meals that they start eating less.

"The trick will be balancing this concept with the importance of variety to good nutrition," McGuire was quoted as saying by LiveScience.

Researchers have calculated that hard-working mothers would receive a salary of £37,000 if they were paid the going rate for their domestic duties.

Rudranil Ghosh is counting the days to leave his bedroom in Tollygunge’s Shantinagar and walk into Mainak Bhaumik’s Bedroom on Jhowtala Road.
Home-bound for about a month following a head injury, Rudranil has been sorely missing the lights-camera-action routine. He starts shooting on August 1. “I have fully recovered. While at home, I wrote a few scripts and that’s what kept me busy. Now I am looking forward toBedroom where I play an actor called Dev; he’s a very confident guy,” says Rudranil, who shot for a detergent ad in between. “It was just four days’ work and good money, so I thought of taking it up.”

Axis Bank, the country’s third-largest private bank, saw profits leap from the year-ago level of Rs 741.88 crore on the back of a surge in fee income even as the bank’s provisions also dropped during the period. Analysts had expected the bank to post a profit of around Rs 900 crore.

Users of Airtel’s Advantage plan will have to pay 60 paise (earlier 50 paise) per minute for local and STD mobile-to-mobile calls within the Airtel network. For mobile to landline calls, the revised tariff is 90 paise (50 paise earlier) for local and STD calls.

Shot in arm for FDI in retail
New Delhi, July 22: A Committee of Secretaries today recommended 51 per cent FDI in multi-brand retail with riders.
The recommendations of the committee, headed by cabinet secretary Ajit Kumar Seth, will be sent to the cabinet.
“We will seek the clearance of the cabinet before the sector is opened up,” R.P. Singh, secretary in the department of industrial policy and promotion, said. However, no timeline has been set for the cabinet approval.
Sources say the committee has set $100-million as investment floor; at least 50 per cent of this amount has to be in back-end infrastructure such as cold storage, soil testing labs and seed farming.

Another resignation, this time its Andrew
Andrew: ‘Shamed’ |
To be fair to the Duke of York, the Queen’s second son, there were no complaints about his mission to Calcutta in March last year as in his capacity as a “special representative for British trade and investment”, which is the post he is giving up.
As a royal, Andrew did probably open many doors, especially in countries such as Saudi Arabia and former Soviet bloc states, perhaps even America, during his decade as a roving ambassador for British trade.
J.Lo, Marc Anthony split shocked fans, pundits
Los Angeles, July 22: Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony’s decision to split just days ago shocked fans and music pundits alike. With similar backgrounds and levels of success, theirs seemed like a Hollywood marriage that would last. But reports edging their way out in the aftermath have indicated that the Lopez-Anthony union was not as blissful as it may have seemed — and that the success that the singer-actress has seen recently may have played a role in the separation. Did J.Lo’s marriage fall victim to a variant of the “Oscar curse”? |

Police inspector Bjoern Erik Sem-Jacobsen said a suspect in the shooting had been arrested. He said the gunman, who was dressed as a police officer, pulled out a gun and started firing into the crowd of youths.
56 approached by bookies, says Steve
Former Australian cricket captain Steve Waugh has revealed 56 cricketers reported illegal approaches by bookmakers to the International Cricket Council last year, after only five players came forward in 2009.
Waugh played his last Test for Australia in 2004 and now plays a pivotal role in attempting to eliminate illegal betting issues from cricket.
The ICC have an anti-corruption and security unit, the body to which players can report suspicious approaches.
Williams hits back at Woods
Tiger Woods has always demanded loyalty from employees and associates as a prerequisite for continued employment or association. His caddie, Steve Williams, was always the embodiment of the loyal employee, going to whatever lengths he deemed necessary to protect Woods on the golf course and off it. And after Woods publicly announced the firing of Williams, his longtime friend and confidant, on his website, using the usual corporate niceties to put some positive spin on it, he might be wondering what happened to the nondisparagement clause in Williams’ contract. |
England will win this series: Ian Botham
Botham |
Calcutta: Ian Botham feels despite India being the world’s No. 1 Test side, England would go on to win the ongoing series as they have more young and vibrant players in their ranks as compared to the visitors.
“I think England will win this series because in my opinion they are already the best team in the world and this summer will simply confirm it. They are the coming force in world cricket and unlike India, who have a lot of players in their twilight years, this is a young, vibrant England with more power to add,” Botham wrote in his column for the Daily Mirror.
