Mumbai airport gets terror alert about liquid explosives targeting planes

Security agencies have been in a heightened state of alert at Mumbai airport after information that terror groups might try to carry explosives on planes using perfume bottles.

Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) received the alert recently from Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). The letter warns that terrorists might carry liquid explosives in small bottles to target planes.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) guarding the Mumbai airport has been put on alert following the intelligence input and help from foreign agencies was also sought.

Airport authorities have also beefed up security on the airport premises after receiving the warning from the Union home ministry.

As a result of the alert, air passengers have been urged not to travel with liquid containers which might raise suspicion.
