Two gynaecologists, three nurses booked


PUNE: The Sangvi police on Thursday booked two gynaecologists and three nurses for medical negligence in connection with an incident happened at Aundh civil hospital in November 2010.

Bhagwan Wakode of servants' quarters at Aundh chest hospital had lodged a complaint with the police after his 22-year-old daughter had given birth to a stillborn baby at Aundh civil hospital on November 30, 2010.

According to assistant police inspector P D Bhujbal, Wakode had complained that the doctors and nurses had not paid attention to his daughter when she complained of severe pain. As a result, she had given birth to a stillborn baby.

The case was referred to the experts' committee at Sassoon hospital. The committee had found that there was medical negligence during treatment, the police said.

The police booked the gynaecologists and nurses under section 304 (a) (death due to negligence) of the IPC.

When contacted, civil surgeon Vinayak More of Aundh civil hospital told TOI, "A departmental inquiry against the five persons has been initiated. One of the gynaecologists has been transferred."
