New Delhi, July 22 (ANI): Union Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal on Friday rubbished the Bharatiya Janata Party's charge that External Affairs Minister S. M. Krishna was also involved in the illegal mining scam.
He described the BJP charge as baseless as Karnataka Lokayukta retired Supreme Court Justice Santosh Hegde had clarified that Krishna's name was not in his report.
"Because I heard Justice Hegde saying that he does not know about Mr. Krishna (S M Krishna, India's Foreign Minister), I heard him myself on television saying that as far as Krishna is concerned, I don't think that he has anything to do with it. So, I don't know how you have asked that question because Justice Hegde's opinion is otherwise," said Sibal.
Sibal criticised the BJP for seeking the resignation of central lawmakers on the basis of mere allegations.
"This is something that the BJP should be looking at themselves, because over the years they have been demanding the resignation of ministers citing mere the allegation charges. They have put allegations on the Congress leaders forcing them to resign otherwise they would hamper the functioning of Parliament. Now, when a report has come out, they say that since the report has been leaked they would not consider the report to be authentic. However, when the CAG (Comptroller and Auditor General) report was leaked they had said that it was the gospel truth. I think the BJP has double standards," added Sibal.
Justice Hegde has indicted Karnataka Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa on charges of corruption in connection with the scam.
In his report, Hegde has mentioned that Yeddyurappa was indirectly involved in an illegal mining scam, while his close family members were directly involved in it. (ANI)
