3 LeT militants, jawan killed in J&K encounter
SRINAGAR: Three terrorists and an Army jawan were killed in a gun battle in Kupwara, north Kashmir, on Friday. The terrorists, said to belong to Lashkar-e-Taiba, were holed up in a house at a village in Lolab, about 120 km from Srinagar, officials said.
Four security personnel were also injured in the encounter that began early morning when troops cordoned off a house in Dar Mohalla village.
According defence spokesman J S Brar, security forces comprising soldiers from Rashtriya Rifles and the state police had specific information about the presence of foreign terrorists in the house.
The hiding terrorists took a woman as hostage and opened fire on the forces when they were asked to surrender, defence spokesman Brar said.
