There are as much as twelve charges against the 60-year-old Dinakaran pending in the Supreme Court.
The charges include corruption, land grabbing, accumulation of disproportionate assets and abuse of his judicial office among many others.

Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari had constituted a three-member panel in January 201 1 comprising Supreme Court judge Justice Aftab Alam, Karnataka High Court Chief Justice JS Khehar and senior advocate PP Rao to examine the charges framed in the notice of motion adopted by the Upper House.

Earlier this week, the Supreme Court had rejected a plea by Dinakaran challenging the decision of a panel probing misconduct charges against him to allow a lawyer to join its proceedings.

The bench had earlier castigated Dinakaran for adopting delaying tactics and rejected his plea to invalidate the inquiry.
