Jetsun Pema became a Queen in spite of her common heritage, joining many other commoners-turned-queens, post her royal wedding to the Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. Pema lived her Cinderella moment while giving many other 'ordinary' girls a reason to believe in theirs too.

Jetsun Pema was born in the year 1990 to Dhondup Gyaltshen, a commercial pilot. Dhondup's grandfather was the governor of Trashigang district of Bhutan. Pema isn't exactly a commoner as her mother Sonam Chuki has a somewhat indirect relation to the royal family of Bhutan. Chuki's father is the half-brother of the queens of the Second King Jigme Wangchuck- Ashi Phuntsho Choden and Ashi Pema Dechan.

She was quite active in co-curricular activities during her schooldays and participated in school bands and dance programmes. Jetsun's interests and talents are quite exhaustive and reflect her penchant for embracing newer things and hence, likely to be the people's favorite. The young woman who won the heart of one of the most eligible bachelors of the world, can, after all, be no ordinary creature and it must have been something special that Khesar fell for her. Jetsun, through her natural grace and warm demeanour has already won over the Bhutanese subjects who have whole-heartedly accepted her as their Queen.

Now that she has been officially inducted into the royal family of Bhutan it remains for her to prove her mettle and live up to the expectations of the people. Hopefully she'll be as popular as other queens, around the globe, who like her were common subjects before marriage.
In conclusion, here is what noted writer, Shobha De has to say about the 'royal couple'. "Move over William and Kate. Here come Jigme Wangchuck nd Jetsun Pema,King and Queen of Bhutan. What a gorgeous royal couple.By far the hottest".
