Realty, oil & gas lift Sensex up 201 points


The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex ended the session today with a gain of over 200 points on emergence of buying by funds led by a firming trend in other Asian bourses.
The 30-share BSE index Sensex was up 201.29 points or 1.09 per cent at 18,612.91 and the Nifty was up 65.9 points or 1.19 per cent at 5,592.05.
Volume toppers during the session were SBI, Infosys, Tata Steel, ONGC and RIL. Major Sensex gainers were RIL, HDFC, L&T, HDFC Bank, SBI, ITC and Bharti Airtel. Tata Power, Hindustan Unilever and Infosys were the major losers.
All the sectoral indices ended in green. Among them, Realty was up 2.1 per cent, Oil & Gas 1.89 per cent, Consumer Durables 1.77 per cent and Auto 1.72 per cent. Of the total 2,999 stocks traded, 1,855 advanced, 1,021 declined and 123 remained unchanged.
During the opening session, the 30-share BSE index Sensex, which has lost over 665 points in the previous three sessions, recovered by 141.86 points or 0.77 per cent to 18,553.48 with select blue-chips leading the recovery.
Similarly, the broad-based National Stock Exchange Nifty index rose 43.90
