Ahmedabad Sessions Court grants bail to Sanjiv Bhatt

Ahmedabad:  A sessions court in Ahmedabad has granted bail to Gujarat IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt.

The 1988-batch IPS officer who has alleged that Chief Minister Narendra Modi gave illegal orders to go slow on rioters at a law and order meeting on February 27, 2002, was arrested on September 30 for allegedly coercing a junior officer to back his claims. During the arguments over the bail hearing the public prosecutor had claimed that Bhatt had forced junior officer K D Panth to file a false affidavit.

The prosecutor had also alleged that the affidavit was signed at the residence of Gujarat Congress president Arjun Modhvadiya.

Bhatt's counsel had denied the allegations claiming that since the arrested officer was a whistleblower, he was being targetted by Modi government.
