Mumbai: As many as 35 Shiv Sena workers were today arrested under the charges of rioting after they held demonstrations against Karnataka Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, when he arrived here to attend a function organised in suburban Mulund, police said.
Over 400 activists had gathered outside the venue protesting against Gowda despite police warning them to leave the place, DCP Sanjay Shintre told PTI.
"After the warning, many of the workers had left the place, while over 25 activists refused to budge following which they were arrested under the charges of rioting and unlawful assembly," he said.
The protesters were raising slogans, including on the contentious border issue pertaining to Belgaum, against the Karnataka Chief Minister, he added.
Maharashtra and Karnataka share a long-standing border dispute over Belgaum and a few other Marathi-speaking villages in the neighbouring state.
