The 58-year-old Moiz Bharmal, who had allegedly killed his parents in the MIDC area a few days ago, has been arrested by officers of the Mumbai Crime Branch.
The police claimed that Bharmal wanted to sell off the flat in which he was staying with his parents, but they were against it.
The police also claimed that Bharmal blamed his parents for the suicide of his wife in 2004. These reasons reportedly drove him to kill his parents.
On July 18, bodies of Nooruddin Bharmal, 87, and his wife Zubeida, 83, were found in their flat at Manisha Apartment in MIDC area. Because Bharmal was on the run, the police were sure about his involvement in the double murder.
According to joint commissioner of police, crime, Himanshu Roy, specific information was received by police inspector Pradeep Gosavi that Bharmal would be arriving in the Marol area on Wednesday. Accordingly, a trap was laid and Bharmal was nabbed.
“Presently unemployed, Bharmal had earlier worked as a mechanical engineer in Dubai and was an alcoholic. His parents were upset with his addiction. Bharmal also wanted to sell off the flat in which they were staying, but the demand was turned down by his parents,” said Roy.
A police officer said that after a heated argument on July 16, Bharmal allegedly killed his parents. Bharmal’s sister stays in Chennai, while his brother lives in Canada. “After two days, Bharmal fled from the house and wanted to commit suicide. He had also purchased a rope to hang himself, but later he got cold feet and aborted the suicide bid. We have seized the rope from him,” the officer said.
