Jagmohan Dalmiya, former president of International Cricket Council (ICC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), got reprieve from the Bombay High Court on Monday in an alleged embezzlement case, albeit only after paying Rs2 lakh towards the police welfare fund.
Justice BR Gavai quashed the criminal proceedings initiated against Dalmiya and his secretary KM Chaudhary on a complaint lodged by BCCI as the dispute was settled by the parties. However, the court has asked Dalmiya to pay Rs2 lakh to the police welfare fund as the police machinery was set in motion after BCCI’s complaint.
Dalmiya’s counsels said that both parties reached a settlement and hence the cricket board had decided to withdraw the case.
Nangre said that Dalmiya has withdrawn the suit filed by him against BCCI in Calcutta high court and BCCI too has withdrawn the civil suit filed against Dalmiya in Bombay High Court.
