BANGALORE: Former minister in the BJP government Katta Subramanya Naidu and his son Katta Jagadish Naidu, whose bail pleas were cancelled by the Lokayukta special court on Monday, were arrested and remanded to judicial custody for 14 days till August 22.
They are facing corruption charges in the multi-crore Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) scam involving a company ITASCA floated by them, and a case in this regard had been filed by the Lokayukta. Meanwhile, S V Srinivas, MD of ITASCA, was also remanded to judicial custody.
Four other accused in the scam — chairman of United Telecom, Basavapoornaiah,� T Muninarayanappa, retired special land acquisition officer, Gopi and B K Manju,�� village panchayat member of Bandikodigehalli — were granted bail by the court. Non-bailable arrest warrants have been issued against Venkaiah and Jaggaiah, two of the accused who are absconding.
Both father and son were taken into custody by the police after the court issued arrest warrants against them. The teary-eyed duo were then taken to the Parappana Agrahara Jail.
The special court had reserved the orders on the bail applications filed by Katta Subramanya Naidu, his son and others in the KIADB case. On Monday, judge Sudheendra Rao passed orders rejecting bail applications and remanded the accused to judicial custody.
Lokayukta police DySP Girish and his team arrested the accused and took them to the prison under heavy police bandobust.
