While India's injury problems have gone from bad to worse, England appear to be having better luck with the fitness of their players.
Jonathan Trott is the most serious worry ahead of the third Test, which starts at Edgbaston on Wednesday. Trott strained the AC joint in his left shoulder while diving to intercept a drive from Rahul Dravid during the second Test.
England are monitoring his progress, and he will be given two work-outs in the nets between now and Friday evening, when the selectors will take a decision about whether he is fit enough to include. Trott, who batted scratchily and down the order in the second innings, was described by Andy Flower as "still in a bit of discomfort and nowhere near 100% yet".
Graeme Swann was hit on the left hand by a delivery from Praveen Kumar while batting in the first innings. He has since had two scans, one during the match, which revealed there were no significant problems.
Chris Tremlett, who missed the Test because he had a tight hamstring, is said to be "progressing well". It was a "very close-run thing" as to whether he was fit to start the last Test or not. It seems certain that he and Swann will both be part of the squad, which will be announced on Saturday morning.
It sounds as though the selectors will need to at least include cover for Trott. Whereas England enjoy real strength in depth with their seam bowlers, it is less clear who the next batsman to come into the team might be.
Ravi Bopara was close to a recall at the start of the season, but the 21-year-old Leicestershire batsman James Taylor was made captain of the England Lions against Sri Lanka A this week and responded by top-scoring in the first innings with 76.
Bopara made only 19, though he did score 178 against Leicestershire in the county championship the previous week. Somerset's James Hildreth, who remains uncapped despite being on the fringes of the squad for some time, may also be in contention.
