The old fashioned look seems to have come back in style where Royal Enfield motorcycles are concerned. RE Motorcycles which first came to India during 1949 solely for use of army has cemented its place in the hearts and minds of bike lovers in India.
Royal Enfield Company's Chief Executive, Mr. Venki Padmanabhan told media that the future looks promising for bike enthusiasts in India. Enfield's looks have not undergone much change in the last 50 years. Manufactured from the company's Chennai unit, which generally concentrates on manufacture of Bullet, the Royal Enfield underwent a slight overhauling of engine during 2009 when the new Classic came into existence.
Their newest motorcycle the Classic 500 which is available for Rs.1,5 lakh, was expected to make a sale of 150 to 200 bikes per month but due to the rising demand, now the company plans to produce about 100 Classi 500 bikes a day. Padmanabhan said that the unit in Chennai had an 8 month waiting list as sales jacked up by 40%. With increased demand, the company is now planning to double its production from 70,000 bikes to 1,50,000 by 2013.
