Azharuddin's son dies of injuries sustained in bike accident



Five days after he was critically injured in a high-speed motorcycle accident, Ayazuddin, son of former Indian cricket captain and Congress MP Mohammad Azharuddin, died today at Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad.


Ayazuddin, 19, had sustained critical injuries after a sports bike, which he and his cousin Ajmal-ur-Rahman, 16, were riding, skidded off the road at Puppalguda on the Outer Ring Road here on September 11. Ajmal, who sustained severe head injuries, died was declared dead by doctors when they were brought to the hospital.
The budding cricketer remained in a critical condition throughout even as tests indicated dysfunction of his brain.
In a medical bulletin issued yesterday, Apollo Hospitals (Central Region) CEO Dr K Hari Prasad said, "Brain function tests conducted on Ayazuddin (in the past few days) indicate brain dysfunction. And his status remains critical."
