Pakistan Prime Minister Cancels Trip to U.N. Because of Floods

Pakistan's prime minister has canceled a trip to attend next week's U.N. General Assembly session in New York, saying he needs to coordinate flood relief efforts at home.
Monsoon rains in Pakistan have flooded large parts of southern Sindh province over the last six weeks, leaving more than 200,000 people homeless.

The U.N. has launched a relief effort in the region, which was also hard hit by floods last year that affected much of the country.
Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani said on Friday that the foreign minister would address the Assembly in his place.
Gilani recently returned from a trip to Iran, where he met President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
