New Delhi:  A divorce can be a messy and costly affair. And sometimes unsuspecting people get dragged in for no fault of their's.

In an incident reported from Chanakyapuri area, a man was nabbed by the police for cheating a jeweller and making off valuables worth two lakh rupees. The accused took the idea from a Bollywood flick, as he needed money to hire a lawyer to fight a divorce case filed by his wife and to repay debt that he had taken from his landlord and friends. But he landed into police net after they approached his wife, who informed the cops about his possible hideout. Additional commissioner of police, KC Dwivedi said the accused, identified as Vishal was then arrested and interrogated by officers.

"Vishal paid a visit at Miarshi Jewellers, situated in front of Hotel Taj Palace, on the pretext of purchasing jewellery. The shopkeeper said that Vishal gave them a bank slip as proof that he had deposited the amount in his State Bank of India account. He then walked out from the shop along with jewellery worth Rs. two lakh. The very next day, the jeweller came to know that Vishal had not deposited any cash in his account. He then got an FIR registered with the Chanakyapuri police," a police official said.

Giving the slip
Police scrutinised the cellphone number of Vishal which he had mentioned on the bank slip. They conducted a raid at his address and found that he had obtained the number furnishing false documents. The cops then got hold of the IMEI number and came to know that different numbers were being used from one location.
"One of the numbers was of his wife Anu Arora, who lives in Rohini area. Police conducted another raid at his wife's address and came to know that he was not living there. Anu, his wife, informed the police that he resided in Mahavir Enclave area in Uttam Nagar," police said.

Police conducted a raid at his Mahavir Nagar residence and came to know that Vishal had left the place a month back. In the meantime, cops found a tempo which was hired by Vishal to take some goods from Chanakyapuri area. The tempo driver told the police that he had dropped off Vishal in Chattarpur in south Delhi. Police officers conducted another raid and managed to nab him there," said the official.
