Kolkata: Taking a dig at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader LK Advani said he wondered why she was silent on the corruption in the central government.
Speaking at a rally in Kolkata on the 10th day of his anti-corruption Jan Chetana Yatra, Advani said for every person associated with politics, the hottest topics for discussion were the corruption, scams and scandals in the central government.
"I know Mamataji for years. She is very outspoken. Whenever we did anything wrong, she said that unequivocally. But I see nowadays she does not say anything on the central government's corruption," Advani said.
The veteran BJP leader hoped that with the change of guard in the state after a long time, the new regime will deliver. "But for that the government should have the guts to call a spade a spade. Whenever they see something wrong, they should muster the courage to say 'this is wrong'."
The BJP leader said, "I asked my friends after coming to Kolkata whether the situation has changed for the better after the change of guard, but they told me so far there was no such sign."
"I don't know the attitude of the central government towards this state. But there should not be a problem. Because the two (the Congress and the Trinamool Congress) are friends," he said.
Another BJP leader Syed Shahnawaz Hussain, without mentioning Banerjee by name, said" "Those travelling with the United Progressive Alliance, should desert because it is a sinking ship."
Banerjee's Trinamool Congress is the second largest partner in centre's ruling dispensation United Progressive Alliance. The Trinamool and the Congress are also coalition partners in West Bengal.
Advani started the yatra from Bihar on October 11.
