New Delhi: The Supreme Court will today take up a Public Interest Litigation or PIL which questions Uttar Pradesh government's action in granting entertainment tax exception to the Jaypee Group for organizing the Formula One race in Greater Noida later this month.
The court has issued notices to UP government and Jaypee Group on the PIL. The petitioner said that the event is an elite one and no public interest is served in granting tax exemption.
The PIL was filed by Amit Kumar. He questioned how the Mayawati government acted so fast to grant exemption to the Formula One racing. The petitioner alleged that Mayawati government gave this exemption to help the company, Jaypee Industries, which is constructing several projects in Uttar Pradesh.
