New Delhi: More cases regarding the land acquired in Greater Noida by builders are expected to come up in the Allahabad High Court on Wednesday and on Thursday.
The HC is expected to decide on land acquisition issues of Roja Yaqubpur and Bisarakh Jalalpur villages of Greater Noida on Wednesday. A decision on Itheda, Haidarpur and four other villages is expected on Thursday.
The acquisition of nearly 2,000 acres of land in Greater Noida and surrounding areas has been challenged in court and nearly 2.5 lakh flats are there in the affected areas.
In another setback to the Mayawati government's land acquisition drive, the Allahabad HC on Tuesday had scrapped the acquisition of 589 hectares of Greater Noida land in the Patwari village, where five big builders including Amrapali, Supertech, Gayatri and Stellar, have several projects in different stages of completion.
This is the second instance of the court quashing land acquired by the Greater Noida Authority.
The Allahabad High Court said that the land was taken forcefully from farmers for industrial development but was actually sold to builders at premium prices for housing projects. The HC judgement comes just days after the Supreme Court passed a similar order in favour of the farmers of Shahberi village.
Farmers said that they were paid Rs 850 per sq meter for their land but that the Greater Noida Authority sold land to builders at roughly Rs 10,500 - Rs 11,000 per sq meter.
While farmers are jubilant, it's middle class investors in Greater Noida who are feeling the pressure. Construction on the 589 hectares in Patwari has already begun - by builders like Arihant - Arden, Eros Sampoornam, Nirala Estate, Patel Neo Town, Amrapali - Leisure Valley and Supertech - Ecovillge 1. The quesiton now haunting the 7000 odd investors is - will the Supreme Court direct the builders to return their money, like it did in the case of Shahberi village?
