Few Indian MPs turned up at the second India-Pakistan parliamentarians Dialogue — where Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline figured in discussions — in New Delhi on Friday.
There had been some unease after it came to light that Ghulam Nabi Fai had had links with the meeting’s Pakistani organiser, PILDAT, as reported by The Indian Express on Friday.
Some 40 Indian MPs were scheduled to attend but less than half turned up — that too only for a few sessions. Only Mani Shankar Aiyar of the Congress and BJP’s Yashwant Sinha stayed through the two-day meeting.
This, however, didn’t prevent the meeting from taking up important issues —Kashmir, Sir Creek, Siachen, terrorism, including follow-up of Mumbai attacks.
“They also agreed to discuss among themselves issues related to energy security, including IPI pipeline, and urge their governments to do likewise,” a joint statement issued at the end of the meeting said.
