Manpreet claims support of US, Canada NRIs

CHANDIGARH: People's Party of Punjab founder Manpreet Badal on Friday claimed that majority of Punjabi NRIs abroad would support him in the forthcoming assembly elections in the state.
Badal, who was on a 16-day "goodwill trip" to US and Canada, said on his return to Chandigarh that around one lakh NRIs would visit Punjab to support him during elections even though most of them didn't have the right to vote.

He said that an unprecedented crowd of over 18,000 people had gathered in Vancouver to listen to him.
Claiming that he did not seek political funding from NRIs during his visit, Manpreet said that NRI constituency was very much interested and also quite effective in Punjab affairs.
Claiming that Punjab CM and deputy CM were afraid to even announce the place from where they would contest elections, Manpreet said, "I will fight from Gidderbaha."
About the SGPC elections, he said PPP was not participating in it as "ours is a secular party and not religious."
When asked about some party members, who have recently deserted him, Badal said, "It was good riddance."
