Anna writes to Chavan, threatens fast-unto-death

Social activist Anna Hazare has now threatened the Maharashtra government with a fast-unto-death if his version of Jan Lokayukta Bill is not passed in the Assembly by the end of winter session. He wrote a letter to Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Thursday, saying that he would go on a fast-unto-death at Saint Dnyaneshwar Samadhi at Alandi near Pune if the Bill was not passed.

The state already has a Lokayukta and Upalokayukta in place as per the Maharashtra Lokayukta and Upa-Lokayuktus Act, 1971.
Manish Sisodia, a member of Team Anna, who is currently camping at Ralegan Siddhi with Hazare confirmed this. “Prior to this, Anna has written two letters to which he got no response. So as a last resort, Anna has written him that if the Bill is not passed, he would go on a fast-unto-death.”
Incidentally, Hazare had sat on a fast-unto-death at Dnyaneshwar Samadhi in August 1999 for ten days, demanding that the Sena-BJP government takes action against corrupt officials.
