The Congress veteran and former Union Minister, Vasant Sathe, died here on Friday night after heart attack. He was 86 and is survived by daughters Suhas and Suniti and son Subhash.
After he complained of chest pain late in the evening, he was rushed to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
A lawyer by training, Mr. Sathe served as Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting in the Cabinet of Indira Gandhi. Known for his frank views, he had touched on many issues such as the presidential form of governance and Priyanka Gandhi's entry into active politics.
Born on March 5, 1925 at Nashik in Maharashtra, Mr. Sathe received his early education at Bhonsla Military School and did his Masters in Economics and Political Science at Nagpur Mahavidyalaya.
Mr. Sathe's body will be donated to the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, his son-in-law Uday Bodhankar said.
