New email, allegedly from IM, claims Delhi court blast

New Delhi:  The National Investigating Agency (NIA) is examining a new email that claims responsibility for yesterday's bomb blast at the Delhi High Court in which 13 people were killed and more than 70 injured.

The mail now being studied is sent from chotoominani5@gmail.com and says the Indian Mujahideen (IM) is behind the terror attack. The email, written in Hindi, says the IM - which is parented by the Lashkar-e-Taiba in Pakistan - warns of another blast outside a mall on Tuesday.  Referring to the attack on the High Court, the mail says the IM planned the blast on a Wednesday because it is well-known that the courthouse draws huge crowds on this day every week on  account of Public Interest Litigations or PILs.

It is not clear if this email is a hoax, or a genuine message from the IM. Experts point out that in the past, the IM sends emails minutes before or after an attack they masterminded; also, their emails have traditionally been written in English and Urdu, and carried signatures of the alleged IM founders, Riyaz and Iqbal Bhatkal.

Yesterday, soon after the terror attack,  TV channels that received an email from HuJI or the Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami taking ownership of the explosion.  HuJI is based in Pakistan and has a big footprint in Bangladesh. Yesterday's email was traced to a cybercafe in Kishtwar in Kashmir.
