New Delhi: Parliament on Wednesday condemned in the strongest term the blast outside Delhi High Court, which killed at least nine people and injured more than 40 others.
Both Houses of Parliament condemned the blast soon after they met for their routine business. As per report, the Lok Sabha was adjourned till 12:30 PM when the Home Minister P Chidambaram made a statement in this regard.
At the outset, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar condemned the blast as a dastardly act and asked the government to make a statement.
Cutting across party lines, leaders condemned the blasts as a cowardly act and said the Lok Sabha cannot continue with business "while people continue to die just over a kilometre from Parliament."
BJP veteran LK Advani condemned the incident and urged the Speaker to adjourn the Lok Sabha till the government made a statement on the blast outside the High Court.
“The BJP strongly condemns this blast and urge the government to ensure that incident like this are not repeated in future,” Advani said, while stressing that frequent blasts in Delhi are a matter of grave concern.”
Mulayam Singh Yadav (SP) also asked the Home Minister to make a statement on the issue and requested the Speaker to adjourn the House for the day.
He also said some foreign nationals come into the country undetected, carry out such incidents and get way.
Sharad Yadav (JD-U) shared the views expressed by members and said the fact that the blast occurred within a kilometre from Parliament was disturbing.
Basudeb Acharia (CPI-M) termed the blast as a "disturbing incident" which should be condemned not only by the House but by the entire country.
He too said that the Lok Sabha should be adjourned till noon and the Home Minister should make a statement on the issue when the House meets.
Meanwhile, the Upper House was adjourned till 2 PM to allow the Government to collect information on the bomb blast outside the Delhi High Court and make a statement.
When the Upper House met for the day, Chairman Hamid Ansari said, “A disturbing news has just trickled in about a bomb blast outside the Delhi High Court.”
"There are reports of some casualties. This is something to be condemned," he said.
Ansari said the government will make a statement as soon as the facts are available.
"As soon as facts are available, we will request the government to share it with the House," he said, adding that it could be possible by around 2 PM and adjourned the House till then.
Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Arun Jaitley also condemned the blasts and assured the government of being united with them. He said, “This is an occasion for us to stand united. We have to work together to set up a mechanism to deter such incidents.”
“My heartfelt condolences to the dead and bereaved. We all stand by their side in this hour of need,” he added.
Senior CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury also condemned the blasts saying, “I strongly condemn this dastardly act of terror. Terror knows no religion. In India, human life is cheaper than anywhere else in the world.”
He further said, “My deep condolences with the families affected by the blasts. I share their anguish. We stand united with the government in the fight against terrorism.”
