Parliament panel on Lokpal not yet reconstituted

Parliament panel on Lokpal not yet reconstituted

Consultations over the Lokpal Bill by the law makers is unlikely to begin soon as the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Law and Justice is yet to be reconstituted.
The term of the earlier committee headed by Abhishek Singhvi was over by August 31 like all other parliamentary committees and none of them has been reconstituted so far.

While Singhvi, who has been renominated as a member of the Committee, is again expected to be its Chairman, no official announcement has been made so far.
While the Rajya Sabha has renominated most of the members on this Committee as also on other Committees, the matter is now with the Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar who has to decide the composition from the Lower House in consultation with political parties.
The Rajya Sabha members have been renominated as the Upper House gives two year term to members on such Committees which will be expiring next year.
In view of this renomination, Amar Singh is set to continue as the member of the Standing Committee on the Lokpal issue despite the fact that he was no longer with the Samajwadi Party.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Law and Justice, Personnel and Public Grievances has been asked to give its report within three months.
Lok Sabha sources said that the Committees are likely to be reconstituted soon.
