New Delhi: As Uttar Pradesh gears up for polls next year, the Congress looking at a revival is in talks with the Ajit Singh-led Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) for an alliance.
The RLD, which is a formidable force in western UP, has been in talks with the Congress for a potential tie-up. But sources have now told NDTV that Mr Singh, who was reportedly offered a Cabinet berth, namely the Textiles Ministry, has turned down the offer.
Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has been extensively touring the state, aggressively targeting the Bahujan Samaj Party-led Mayawati government over land acquisition. The issue snowballed into a major crisis - as in the case of violence in the twin villages of Bhatta and Parsaul of Greater Noida as well as in Agra.
