Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is meeting the Maoist interlocutors today. Ms Banerjee had given a deadline to rebels to lay down their arms by October 22; the Maoists have not responded so far.
Last Sunday, however, Maoist posters were found near Midnapore saying that the Chief Minister had not kept her promise to withdraw joint forces from Jangalmahal and release political prisoners.
The Mamata government appointed interlocutors earlier this month. The interlocutors met the Maoists and issued a joint statement offering a month's ceasefire if the government suspended joint operations against Maoists. Ms Banerjee has not yet responded.
