Bangalore: Arrested former Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today prolonged his stay outside jail by moving from a state-run heart speciality centre to a general hospital, hours after the Karnataka High Court deferred his interim bail plea hearing in a land case to October 20.
Mr Yeddyurappa was moved in an ambulance through a third exit point to the government-run Victoria Hospital from the Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology with a large media contingent waiting outside the main entrance.
"Since the results of a 24-hour Holter Study through which his heart and heart beats were monitored show that the condition of his heart is normal and stable, we discharged him," Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology Director Dr CN Manjunath told PTI.
He said Mr Yeddyurappa suffers from other medical problems like diabetes, hypertension, hypothyroidism, backache and reactive airway disease and Parkinson, besides high sodium levels in the blood and depression.
"Jail authorities permitted shifting of Mr Yeddyurappa on the recommendations by the Jayadeva Hospital's doctors that he required multi-disciplinary medical consultations as he suffered from multiple ailments," DIG Prisons Lakshminarayana said.
The Jayadeva hospital in its discharge summary also stated that Mr Yeddyurappa, who is a chronic diabetic, required consultations from the Institute of Nephrology and Urology, which is adjacent to the Victoria Hospital.
In Delhi, the Congress took a dig at Mr Yeddyurappa. "Whoever goes to jail falls ill. I think we must constitute some research what disease suddenly crops up when one sees the prison door," party spokesperson Renuka Chowdhary said.
Law Minister Salman Khurshid said the BJP has a lot to explain on what happened in Karnataka.
When Mr Yeddyurappa's interim bail plea came up, Justice BV Pinto of the Karnataka High Court adjourned the hearing on the application to October 20.
The bail plea was filed yesterday by Mr Yeddyurappa, who, facing imminent arrest, had surrendered before the Lokayukta Court on Saturday last after it rejected his bail application.
The Lokayukta court had on October 15 remanded Mr Yeddyurappa to judicial custody till October 22 in cases relating to alleged irregularities in denotification of government lands.
At the Jayadeva Hospital where Mr Yeddyurappa underwent an angiogram yesterday, tests ruled out cardiac-related problems, leading to his discharge this evening.
Hours after he was remanded to judicial custody by a local court on October 15, Mr Yeddyurappa had complained of uneasiness and chest pain in the wee hours and was rushed to the Jayadeva hospital.
