Thiruvananthapuram: "The Central Government should break its silence on the Mullaperiyar dam issue," National Award-winning actor Prakash Raj has said.
On the sidelines of 16th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK), he told media persons that the Centre should immediately intervene in the issue.
"It is the job of the Centre to bring experts to decide on the safety of the dam. If the dam is unsafe, the Centre should intervene in the issue and resolve it,'' he said.
"I am not going to run away from the issue as I am a citizen of the country. We can't put people's lives in danger by adopting various stands on such a serious issue like the safety of Mullaperiyar dam. There is another section of people who say the dam is safe and they would be deprived of water if the new dam is built, he said.
Prakash Raj further said he did not see anything wrong in people getting organised on a serious issue like dam safety and this is a right of the people in a democratic country like India.
