2G case: Karim Morani's bail plea in Supreme Court today

New Delhi:  The bail plea of Cineyug Films' Karim Morani, arrested for his alleged role in the 2G spectrum scam and lodged in Tihar Jail, is expected to come up in Supreme Court today.

Morani is lodged in jail since May 30 along with 13 other accused in the 2G scam including former telecom minister A Raja, DMK MP Kanimozhi and Swan Telecom promoter Shahid Usman Balwa.

Morani was arrested after the court rejected its bail on the grounds that there was enough evidence against him in the 2G scam case and that he could influence the case if granted bail.

The CBI had, in its second chargesheet in the 2G case, alleged Swan Telecom and Dynamix Realty Promoters Shahid Usman Balwa and Vinod Goenka channeled Rs. 200 crore to the DMK family-run Kalaignar TV, through Kusegaon Fruits and Vegetables Pvt Ltd and Morani's Cineyug Films Pvt Ltd.

On two earlier instances when Morani applied for bail on health grounds, both the CBI court and the Delhi High Court had rejected it.
