After killing his girlfriend Nilam Yadgiri, an employee of WNS, Vijay Kumar Dudhare (26), freshened up and changed his clothes, before leaving the flat in Dattanagar.
Dudhare suspected that Yadgiri was having an affair with a common friend of the couple Samod Munnalal Jadon.
Jadon was in Yadgiri's flat minutes before Dudhare arrived. Seeing her lover, Yadgiri panicked and asked Jadon to hide in a neighbour's flat.
According to the Vishrantwadi police, Yadgiri who had recently shifted to the city for a job was staying in a rented room in Jidda building in Dattanagar. Yadgiri and Dudhare had both moved from Solapur. Earlier, Yadgiri stayed with Dudhare, before getting a rented accommodation in Dattanagar.
Later, Yadgiri and Jadon got intimate which angered Dudhare. "We believe that the woman was killed because Dudhare was suspicious. He is absconding and the hunt is on to nab him," said DCP Sanjay Jadhav, Zone IV.
Yadgiri's mother Kavita, who is also working in the city, said: "My daughter's number was unreachable for the last couple of days. I was aware that Dudhare was forcing Nilam to get married to him. In fact, Dudhare even tried to commit suicide in Solapur two weeks ago." The couple's friend Jadon, who was present in the neighbouring flat, did not intervene even as Yadgiri lay in a pool of blood. The police have made him the complainant in the case.
