New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will file an FIR against former Union minister Dayanidhi Maran in the 2G spectrum allocation scam soon.
The CBI on Wednesday told the Supreme Court that the charges against Maran would be finalised by September 30.
Maran was forced to resign as Union Minister of Textiles following allegations that he arm-twisted Aircel owner C Sivasankarn to sell his 74 per cent stake to Maxis group of Malaysia.
The FIR will also be filed against his brother, Kalanidhi Maran, and five others in the Aircel case in which the CBI is likely to say that Maran deliberately delayed the licences to Aircel.
Sources have told CNN-IBN that Maran favoured Maxis in return for investments made in Sun TV. Kickbacks of almost Rs 600 crore were given to Marans after the favour shown to Maxis, sources claimed. Maran's personal secretary has reportedly confirmed the delay in licence to Aircel. The main charges against Maran are likely to be conspiracy, misuse of official position, giving bribe and accepting bribe.
Sivasankaran filed a complaint against Maran and deposed before the CBI in mid May, in which he gave details of how he was 'forced' to sell his stake in Aircel.
The CBI in one of its report to the Supreme Court has implicated Maran, who was the telecom minister between 2004 and 2007, in the 2G spectrum scam saying that initial enquiry revealed that he deliberately sat on Aircel's licence application.
