Flood Situation gradually improving in Orissa; death toll rises to 27




Report by Pravuprasad Routray; Bhubaneswar: Rescue and relief operations are continuing in the flood affected areas of Orissa. Centre deployed 13 teams of NDRF. NDRF's 393 men with 78 boats and rescue equipment etc are carrying out rescue and relief operations.



It should be noted that a total of 10 districts of Odisha namely Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Baleswar, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundergarh, Angul, Dhankanal ,and Deogarh have been affected due to flood in the rivers Boodabalang, Suwarnrekha, Brahmani and Batrani. The water level in the flood affected areas of Jajpur has receded by two feet, in Kendrapada the water level is steady and in Bhadrak only 2 blocks are flooded. 542 relief camps have been set up where 173337 people have been accommodated. Till the moment  27 people have died and 3 persons are missing.
 NDRF has rescued/evacuated 3834 persons till date. 04 MI 17 helicopters of MOD are still deployed for air dropping of the food packets and rescue operations. A total of 57 sorties have been carried out till 27-9-11.
23509 number of food packets( one pkt-5kgs consisting of flattened rice, jaggery, biscuits, candles, matchbox, halogen tablets, ORS packets and salt) have been dropped .
