Deoband: Decision on the fate of Ghulam Mohammad Vastanvi, the Vice Chancellor of Darul Uloom Deoband, would be taken today by a three-member Majlis-e Shura.
"The decision on Vastanvis's fate would be taken in tomorrow's meet," acting vice-chancellor Mufti Abul Qasim Nomani said on Saturday.
The report of the inquiry committee would be submitted at the meeting of the Council on Sunday, he said.
According to the sources, there is no unanimity in the three-member committee regarding the fate of Vastanvi.
Vastanvi, who is also has an MBA, was elected Vice Chancellor on January 10 following the death of his predecessor Maulana Marghoobur Rahman. He sparked a controversy, saying Muslims too benefited from the development initiative of the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
Vastanvi's remarks had created outrage among the students of the seminary who demanded his removal.
The governing council constituted a three-member committee, comprising Mufti Mazoor Ahmad from Kanpur, Mufti Mohammad Ismail from Malegaon and Maulana Mohammad Ibrahim from Chennai, to look into the allegations against Vastanvi.
