Laxman desperate to get first ton in England
SOMERSET: Indian middle-order batsman VVS Laxman is looking to get his first Test hundred on England soil, 15 years after making his international debut.
That dream could be fulfilled in the 2,000th Test match and the 100th between India and England, which begins on July 21 at Lords.
Laxman believes that coach Duncan Fletcher has brought a whole new dimension to Indian cricket.
"It has been brilliant. The one month I spent with him in the West Indies was very encouraging and very satisfying," the Daily Express quoted Laxman, as saying of Fletcher.
"You know by just talking to him that he has got a lot of knowledge and experience from coaching. The Lord's Test match will be his 100th as a coach, which is a great achievement in itself and so we're very lucky to have him. I talked with him a lot in the West Indies, particularly about technique," Laxman added.
Laxman has failed to reach the milestone of a century in his previous 13 matches in England. His highest score against England remains the 75 he scored during the Lord's Test back in 2002.
It remains a source of frustration for the 36-year-old who averages over 47 in international cricket but only 36 against England.
"I don't have a hundred against England, but I've had some good knocks against them, although I've not managed to convert the half-centuries," he said.
"The England bowling attack is very formidable and so I'm looking forward to continuing the consistency of recent years. There is no single reason why I haven't got a hundred against them, but hopefully I can this time around," he added.
