Kolkata: Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee is the latest star entrant in the long tradition of dynastic politics.
Mr Banerjee is to take charge of the newly launched Trinamool Yuva, which was launched on 21 July - the day of Trinamool's victory rally; its anthem was sung by Bangla rock music icon Rupam Islam.
It has officially launched its constitution and its membership drive.
"I certainly wanted to be part of this organization because I believed in the principles and morals of Mamata Banerjee. I have seen her in my childhood, the days when she was beaten mercilessly and the atrocities she has undergone under the CPI-M leadership. And I wanted to create a platform for youth; making sure their voice matters, they matter, said Abhishek Banerjee, President, Yuva.
Yuva's motto is of the youth, by the youth, for the youth. Its annual membership is Rs. 12.
Mr Mukherjee appeared confident and took questions on dynastic politics in his stride.
"Let's make a rule that anyone from a lawyer's family will not become a lawyer, anyone from a doctor's family will not become a doctor, anyone from a sportsman's family will not become a sportsman. If anyone passes such a rule, I'll be happy to accept that," said Abhishek Banerjee, President, Yuva.
There is no denying dynasty. But if the young Abhishek is going to follow in Mamata Banerjee's footsteps, he has very big boots indeed to fill.
