Kyrgiakos ends Liverpool stay for return to Germany

Liverpool: Veteran Greek international central defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos returned to Bundesliga football on Monday after signing for VfL Wolfsburg on a two year contract from English Premier League giants Liverpool.

The 32-year-old - who played for Eintracht Frankfurt from 2006-2008 - could have got a one year contract with Liverpool as he had played for them the requisite number of times - 49 appearances in all - stipulated in his transfer from AEK Athens in 2009.

However, Kyrgiakos, who also had a spell with Scottish champions Rangers, decided he would have more chances of first team football at the 2009 German champions as coach Felix Magath is desperate to stiffen up his defence after a 4-1 walloping by Borussia Moenchengladbach last Friday.

Liverpool have not revealed whether they received money for Kyrgiakos, who appeared for his country at Euro 2008 and last year's World Cup where they went out in the first round on both occasions
