Susanta ex-aide held

Midnapore, July 24: Former CPM minister Susanta Ghosh’s aide, who was expelled from the party, was arrested today by the CID which is probing the case of human body parts being found near the leader’s ancestral home last month.
Along with Debashis Pyne, who was an assistant of Ghosh when he was the junior transport minister from 1996 to 2001, the CID has arrested Gunadhar Rana, a CPM worker.
Pyne, a resident of Anandapur, had fallen out with Ghosh in 2003. He was expelled from the party soon after.

Gunadhar was arrested this morning from his home in Soldiha village in Keshpur. Pyne, a teacher at Pingboni High School in Goaltore, was arrested in the evening from a bus stand in Midnapore.
Humans remains, including skulls and bones, were found on June 4 in Benachapra village in Garbeta near Ghosh’s ancestral home. The CID joined the probe the next day.
Keshpur-resident Shyamal Acharya had identified some of the remains as that of his father Ajoy’s, who was allegedly killed along with five others at Piyashal by CPM activists in 2002.
After identifying the body from its tattered clothes, Shyamal had named 40 CPM workers and leaders, including Ghosh, in a police complaint. CID officers said Shyamal had also named Pyne and Gunadhar.
Ghosh had applied for anticipatory bail in Calcutta High Court apprehending arrest.
On July 18, the high court granted Ghosh conditional anticipatory bail. The division bench said during the bail period, Ghosh would not be allowed to enter West Midnapore without permission from the chief judicial magistrate.
The judges had also said Ghosh would have to inform the investigating officer about his whereabouts regularly and meet him whenever required.
