Calcutta: Sachin Tendulkar may recommend the use of hawk-eye in Decision Review System (DRS) to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), according to the technology’s inventor Paul Hawkins.
Tendulkar changed his mind after a meeting with Hawkins in which he was shown how the ball-tracking system worked.
Hawkins met the Indian batting legend before the start of India’s ongoing Test series against England and claimed to have removed all doubts from the Master’s mind about the system.
Hawkins said Tendulkar will help persuade the BCCI to reverse the stance.
“It was clear Tendulkar had been told the Hawk-Eye system was manual, requiring an operator. He wasn’t aware that it is automatic and beyond corruption by humans,” said Hawkins.
“Once we had set the record straight with him, he left saying he would tell the BCCI and recommend that Hawk-Eye was used. I don’t think it will take too much time for the BCCI to act on advice from Tendulkar,” he added.
The DRS is being used in the ongoing India-England series but without the hawk-eye technology for the lbws, as was demanded by the BCCI.
