Youth 'hangs' for Telangana

New Delhi, July 20: A 31-year-old Telangana supporter allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree near India Gate early today, frustrated over the delay in granting statehood to the region.
Police said the deceased, identified as Mandadi Adhireddy, was a resident of Moinabad village in Rangareddy.

"We found a 10-page suicide note written in Telugu in his pocket. Apparently, he was frustrated over the delay in granting statehood and that's why he chose to kill himself," said additional deputy commissioner (central) Seju P. Kuruvilla.
According to the official, morning walkers spotted the body hanging from the tree near India Gate and alerted the police control room at 7.30am.
"A police team rushed to the spot and took the body to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital where he was declared brought dead. He hanged himself using a bedcover. A mobile phone, a telephone diary, a unique identification card and the suicide note were found from his pocket. He wrote Jai Telangana on each page of the 10-page suicide note," Kuruvilla said.
"He was found hanging in an open area lawn beside Krishi Bhavan which is normally frequented by tourists during daytime. A probe revealed that he had arrived in the capital on July 18 by a train. It was a premeditated act as he had written a 10-page suicide note well in advance before killing himself," Kuruvilla added.
The police have informed his mother and elder sister and both have left for Delhi, sources said.
Ramakrishna Reddy, the convener of the Telangana Joint Action Committee in Delhi, said the deceased used to work as a driver in Hyderabad and was unmarried.
"He took the extreme step after being frustrated over the delay in granting statehood. Many more people will kill themselves if the government does not meet the demand," Reddy said.
