Fake cops loot man during frisking in Bangalore

Bangalore:  Taking advantage of the mild chaos resulting from the city police stepping up security measures after terrorists struck in Mumbai, opportunists are having a heyday and looting unsuspecting victims.

Two men, posing as cops, robbed a hotel employee of Rs. 22,500 on the pretext of frisking him, while he was enroute to the bank to deposit the cash. Sadashiva Shetty, who works in Safina Hotel on Commercial Street, was told that they were police officers from Delhi and they even showed him their ID cards.

Shetty informed that he was carrying cash and was ready to go to the police station for verification.

The duo convinced him that it was a routine check and made a quick check of his bag and allowed him to go, while they headed off in the opposite direction. Shetty continued on to the bank thereafter, but was shocked to find that Rs. 22,500 was missing.

However, another two bundles totaling Rs. 12,000, which were in another part of the bag, were safe.

Shetty immediately informed his employer and later went to the Commercial Street police station to file a complaint.

"Both men were aged between 30 to 35 years and spoke Hindi and English," Shetty told the police while giving a description. The police have taken up a complaint and are investigating the matter. "We have alerted police patrols about suspicious elements moving in the busy area," a police officer said.
