NEW DELHI: The former England cricket captain Nasser Hussain's remarks on Indian fielders has not gone well with the Indian people. Most Indians including Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan have criticized Hussain for calling Indian cricketers 'donkeys'.
Amitabh Bachchan tweeted: "Did not like Nasir Hussain ex-cricket captain of UK, refer to Indian fielders as 'donkeys', as he commentated on tour of our team."
A member of the commentary panel covering the T20 international between India and England on Wednesday, Hussain's comment came after Parthiv Patel misjudged Kevin Pietersen's catch off Munaf Patel's bowling. "I would say the difference between the two sides is the fielding. England are an all-round good fielding side. I do believe that India have few...3 or 4 very good fielders and one or two donkeys in the field still," Hussain had said.
People from India are fuming over Hussain's remarks suggesting strict decision to be taken against him. One tweet said, "please take some action against Nasser Hussain for his remarks against our players..if don't do it today he will again do it."
"Would Nasser Hussain have dared to say the same thing for Don Corleone? Haan? Kya woh usey Donkey Corleone bula sakta tha" tweeted another.
Some have even tweeted saying that PETA should take action against the former England captain. There are other who have said that he is suffering from 'foot in mouth' disease.
"Nasser loves donkeys....no surprises really... coz he was once leading 11 of them on the field." "Indian cricket team got donkeys than England cricket team got monkey's like Nasser Hussain. Donkeys at least work but monkeys only dance!"
Hussain has found support for his comment from Michael Vaughan. Vaughan who has been criticized in the past for his comments on VVS Laxman, wrote on his blog, "Just seen that Nasser said the Indians have a couple of Donkeys in the field... How wrong can he be!!!! I have seen at least 4...."
A tweet criticizing both reads, "comparing indian cricketers with donkey is disgraceful...i didnt expect this from Nasser Hussain and Vaughan."
